Everybody wants to be a hero. People are always pursuing a noble purpose in life through showing kindness to anyone even if it involves the risk of their own safety. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is an agency that promotes heroism.

Currently, BFP has an actual strength of 17, 811 uniformed personnel. Through the full support of DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, BFP was able to recruit 470 qualified strong men and women to become firefighters.

On September 9, 2014, the 470 new recruits were officially recognized as Fire Officers 1 of the BFP at the ceremony which was held at the BFP-NHQ Activity Ground, Agham Road, Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City. It was attended by their relatives, parents, and loved ones.

The Fire Recruits underwent two months orientation which is generally considered as their first glimpse of their 6-month long training. That training at the National Fire Training Institute at Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba, Laguna is for them to prepare themselves for the battle – the fire response.

The traditional pass in review was done when our Guest of Honor and Speaker, BFP Officer-in-Charge; CSUPT CARLITO S ROMERO arrived to grace the said event. CSUPT ROMERO stressed on the challenges of technical knowledge in all aspects of firefighting, rescue operation, and medical first response, and other special responses.

The achievement of their dream to become firefighters marked on this very date, with acceptance of the duties and responsibilities of risking their own lives for the safety of others.

The BFP will continue to recruit and train individuals to become capable firefighters, who have the heart to become heroes, and save lives and property in times of turmoil and peace.
