In preparation for the observance of this year’s Fire Prevention Month, the Bureau of Fire Protection will conduct a series of activities focusing on the theme slogan: “Kaligtasan sa Sunog: Alamin, Gawin at isabuhay Natin.”
On the first day of March, there will be a simultaneous conduct of “Walk for a Fire-Free and a Fire-Safe Nation” nationwide, except for the BFP NHQ and NCR which will conduct the said activity on March 3 at the Quezon Memorial Circle to be led by BFP Officer-in-Charge CSUPT ARIEL A BARAYUGA and to be participated in by firefighters, fire volunteers, public servants, NGOs, students, professionals and people from all walks of life. At exactly 12:00 noon, all BFP Fire Stations nationwide will simultaneously conduct a five-minute blowing of horns of all firefighting apparatus.
One of the highlights of the activity is the first BFP National Fire Olympics on March 3-4 which will be categorized in 3 levels such as the Industrial, Barangay, and the Uniformed Personnel. The said event aims to exhibit the fire fighting prowess of various Fire Departments, as well as to promote sportsmanship and to develop a healthy camaraderie among the BFP personnel, NGO’s, and other public servants.
The line-up of activities also includes TV and radio guesting emphasizing the importance of fire safety; Berong Bumbero sa Paaralan or the conduct of fire safety awareness campaign in all elementary schools thru story-telling from March 3 to 7; Nationwide Fun-Run dubbed as Takbo Laban sa Sunog will run on March 7; Conduct of refresher training course to all volunteer Fire Brigades and Brgy. Disaster Control Brigade of all Regional Offices/Fire Stations on March 9; from March 11 to 13, all fire stations will be inviting school children in their area of responsibility for a three-day Open House to give lectures on fire safety and provide them proper knowledge in using different firefighting equipment.
On March 14, Fire Prevention Games and Contests will be simultaneously conducted nationwide. The contests include Drawing Contest for Elementary; Poster Making for High School students; Photo Contests open to those who are interested to join; and Singing contest (duet) for BFP Personnel. All winning entries from Regional Offices will be displayed at the BFP-NHQ lobby from March 17-31. The national winners will be judged on March 18-19.
For the whole duration of Fire Prevention Month, the Fire Safety Awareness Campaign will be continuous. Leaflets, posters and other information materials will be distributed in different areas. Lectures on fire prevention, inspection of establishments, testing of fire hydrants, fire disaster emergency evacuation planning, fire drills, monitoring of all hazard operations, identification of fire prone areas and conduct of pre-fire planning to areas identified, caravans and Barangay Ugnayan will be intensified. Said activities will be conducted by all BFP Fire Stations natiowide.
There will be a Culminating Ceremony on the last day of March at the BFP National Headquarters and all BFP fire stations nationwide.
The Bureau of Fire Protection has been observing Fire Prevention Month for 49 years now. It is being done annually to strengthen its relationship with the different sectors of the community and encourage them to be partners in promoting and achieving a fire-safe and fire-free nation.
