In his speech during the Kick-Off Ceremony of Fire Prevention Month, DILG Secretary Mar Roxas announced the procurement of more or less 300 fire trucks. The DILG Secretary said that the department and the Bureau of Fire Protection have 3.4 billion pesos which is still to be allotted for fire truck procurement. “At hindi lamang 300 fire trucks, meron pa itong 300 fire stations or fire houses para gagarahe dito sa mga fire trucks na ito,” he added.

The DILG and BFP have just turned-over Rosenbauer fire trucks to twenty six (26) cities during the Fire Prevention Month Kick-Off last March 3 at Quezon Memorial Circle. Said fire trucks were part of the seventy eight (78) units procurement project which was first initiated by the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo. At present, there are still municipalities which do not have fire stations and firefighting equipment. Secretary Roxas ensured that through President Pinoy’s Tuwid na Daan Program, these deficiencies will be addressed. He stated that the DILG and BFP will continue to build fire stations and procure quality and top-of-the-line firefighting equipment to upgrade the agency’s capability and eventually cope up with its modernization program.

Further, the DILG Secretary commended the men and women of BFP for ensuring the safety of the Filipino people against fire. He particularly recognized firefighters who risk their lives in the line of duty especially those who died while conducting rescue and relief operations during the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda last year. He expressed his gratitude to all firefighters in the country describing them as heroes who are willing to risk their own lives to save others.
