Rendering thirty-two (32) years of dedicated service, Chief Superintendent (CSupt) Ruben Fornaleza Bearis Jr retired from the fire service today, leaving the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) with only three (3) one star Generals equivalent rank of Chief Superintendent.

CSupt Bearis, presently serving as the Regional Director of the BFP Region 5 started his government service in 1983 as a fireman. In his desire to become a leader, he entered the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) on May 1984, earning him the rank of Fire Lieutenant upon graduation in the year 1986. He belongs to the “Tagapagtanggol” Class of the PNPA.

He is one of the members of the committee who drafted both RA 9514 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations. He also implemented the “Baywatch Station Project” the first of its kind in the country, aimed to respond to fire and other related emergencies, thereby earning him the “Lingkod Bayan Presidential Award”.

Along with CSupt Bearis, , CSupt Rodrigo R Abrazaldo, the Deputy Chief for Administration, BFP-NHQ , CSupt Lorenzo S De Guia, the Deputy Chief for Operations, BFP-NHQ, and CSupt Aloveel B Ferrer, the current Regional Director of BFP Region 3 are the only 3 remaining officers with the respective rank and are set to retire from the service next year and on 2017.

However, consistent to the Republic Act (R.A.) 9263, otherwise known as the BFP and BJMP Professionalization Act of 2004, the approved Percentage Rank Distribution of the BFP Uniformed Personnel for the number of officer holding the rank of Chief Superintendent is ten (10), a far cry from the remaining 3 senior executives.

On the other hand, the BFP National Headquarters will hold a Retirement Honors for CSupt Bearis later this day in recognition for his utmost dedication and unwavering service to the BFP.
