President Benigno S Aquino III has approved the promotion of four (4) Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officials into Chief Superintendent, equivalent rank of one-star General in the Military.
Fire Chief Superintendent Bobby V Baruelo the current BFP Deputy Chief for Operations became one-star General in a joint BFP and BJMP Pinning of Ranks and Oath Taking Ceremony earlier today at the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-NAPOLCOM Center officiated by no less than DILG Under Secretary Atty. Peter Irving Corvera. He belongs to the Tagapaglingkod Class 1987 of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).
The other 3 officers who rose from the ranks thru lateral entry are F/CSupt Igmedio U Bondoc Jr. the current Regional Director of BFP-Region V; F/CSupt Leonard R Bañago the Regional Director of BFP-Region I; and F/CSupt Leonides P Perez the Directorate for Fire Safety and Prevention, BFP-NHQ.
In the letter to DILG Secretary Mar Roxas dated August 20, 2015, President Aquino approved the promotion of the said key executives through the endorsements of the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission and through the recommendation of the DILG in conjunction with Republic Act No. 9263.
However, consistent to the Republic Act (R.A.) 9263, otherwise known as the BFP and BJMP Professionalization Act of 2004, the approved Percentage Rank Distribution of the BFP Uniformed Personnel for the number of officer holding the rank of Chief Superintendent is ten (10), a far cry from the current seven (7) senior executives.###
