To create awareness among the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel regarding the health benefits of Vitamin D, Pro Cast, a pharmaceutical company together with High Precision Diagnostics conducted a Vitamin D Blood testing earlier today at the BFP-National Headquarters lobby.
Fifty (50) selected BFP personnel participated in the said event. The activity is part of Pro Cast’s information drive in partnership with the BFP to educate firefighters of the importance of Vitamin D and its risks.
Also, part of the activity is a lay forum that will focus mainly on the health importance of Vitamin D and the danger of having a deficiency of the vitamin, together with a free consultation on May 12, 2015.
The activity also aims to provide a healthy workforce within the Fire Bureau to effectively carry out their duties to the citizenry.
High Precision Diagnostics will distribute the laboratory results on May 12, 2015.
According to studies, Vitamin D deficiency is associated with the increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment in older adults, severe asthma in children, and cancer.
A daily dose of vitamin D can be obtained from these sources: 20-25 minutes of sunlight spurs the body to make vitamin D; fatty fish such as salmon, trout, mackerel, tuna, and eel; canned tuna and sardines; Portobello mushrooms; fortified milk; egg yolks; low-calorie fortified cereal; and beef liver.
