Director Ariel Barayuga, Chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has issued a directive to all his personnel giving them warning against certain individuals or groups that are soliciting donations for the families of PNP Special Action Force (SAF). In his memorandum, Director Barayuga reiterated that some scammers are taking advantage of the beleaguered SAF 44 families and even mentioning the names of Secretary, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Mar Roxas and Secretary Voltaire Gazmin of the Department of National Defense (DND).
“We received a report that certain individuals or groups are allegedly soliciting donations through text messaging (SMS) for the families of SAF 44 and even uses the names of Sec. Mar Roxas and Sec. Voltaire Gazmin”, Barayuga said. He said that the DILG and the DND does not authorize anybody to solicit donations on its behalf nor encourage any form of solicitation for the families of SAF 44 among its personnel and employees.
The DILG, through Atty. Edwin Enrile, Undersecretary for Operations has also issued a memorandum to all DILG Bureau Directors, Heads of Operating Units/Services, Local Government Academy (LGA) Directors, Regional Directors, Vice-Chairman, National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), Officer-in-Charge, Philippine National Police (PNP),President, Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC), Directors, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and other concerned line agencies stating therein that their office categorically denies any involvement is such activities. However, Atty. Enrile said that the DILG was informed that the PNP has opened a bank account in the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) in case some donors are willing to give their cash donations under the PNP Special Assistance Fund.
“Kindly disseminate this information to your respective offices and advise your personnel and employees to refrain from entertaining or getting involved in this kind of activity” Atty. Enrile said as he reminded those personnel or employee who will engage in the aforesaid undertaking without justifiable cause shall be dealt with accordingly.
